KHAO YAI, THAILAND

IMG_6150.JPG

Widely considered Thailand’s best national park, Khao Yai is full of trails, wildlife, and waterfalls! I wouldn’t recommend trying to do a day trip from Bangkok to see Khao Yai as there is so much to see and the drive is 3 hours. Due to the park’s sheer size, distances between places of interest are very long which makes seeing the park on foot difficult (there are also some roads that cannot be accessed by foot). For that reason, I recommend renting a car (or motorbike), hiring a taxi, or hitchhiking!

Attractions:

  • Khao Yai National Park: Entrance to the park for tourists is 445 baht ($13 USD) per day. As mentioned above, I would not recommend trying to see the park on foot. Spots to be sure to hit inside the national park include: Haew Suwat Waterfall, Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam, Nam Tok Haew Narok Waterfall, and Ban Tha Chang Spring.

  • Khao Yai Art Museum: This is free and has some cool artwork inside!

  • Other things to check out include: PB Valley Khaoyai Winery, Ban Tha Chang spring, Wat Pa Sawang Bun, Wang Ta Krai Waterfall, and Scenical World.

Accommodation:

  • I stayed with a friend here so I don’t have any recommendations. If you were to stay here though, you’d have to stay in a hotel as there aren’t any hostels to my knowledge.

Transportation:

  • Bangkok is 3 hours by bus from Khao Yai and costs 190 baht. If you plan to take the bus here, make sure you go to Mo Chit 2 (there are two stations named Mo Chit so be sure to stress Mo Chit 2). You need to take the bus heading to Pak Chong. The navigation is a bit tricky so be sure to ask for help in the bus station if you’re confused.
